Why so many electric pickup trucks?

661 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  StillHummer
Tesla, GM and Rivian have invested a lot into entering the electric pickup truck segment. Its only the beginning and we're about to see nearly every existing pickup truck maker get involved, along with completely new automakers like Nikola. But has anyone questioned why?

I read that "General Motors wants the car aficionados and gearheads to pay attention: convince them to go electric, and the whole world might follow. To wit, GM has stuffed plenty of nerdery into the electric pickup. It comes with a crab walk feature that lets the truck drive diagonally and in-vehicle graphics developed by video game maker Epic Games. The truck, the first to use GM’s new Ultium batteries, has a 350-mile range. It can do 0 to 60 in three seconds."

If that was the goal, then GM knocked it out of the park. For like 3 days after the reveal, the top 5 most trafficked stories on Car and Driver were all articles on the Hummer EV. Also, according to Google Trends, the Hummer EV had more search traffic at and after it's reveal then the Tesla Cybertruck, which is insane.
Not surprised.
GMC gave us a complete vehicle with tons of information to go through already. Its also on the premium end of the electric pickup market. And we have A LOT to be excited about.

So there's that.

Tesla on the other hand, didn't do nearly as much.
