Verification process/ Dealer Mark ups

I just spoke with the Concierge about verification process for the 1st Edition SUV and I asked if I passed on the reservation if it went to the next person in line nation wide who was "wait listed" or if it went to my dealer and it was theirs to sell to whoever they wanted... I was curious, because I haven't spoken with them about Mark Ups yet... Or not to the Sales Manager.... I was thinking (I think that I read here) that it would go back to GMC to re-allocate to the next person in line... So, I thought that I may have a little bargaining power IF they said that they were going to mark it up... That I could walk away and they wouldn't get the truck and it would go to a lucky person who was wait listed... BUT the concierge told me otherwise... If I don't verify, the dealership still get the truck... I am going to go and speak with the Sales Manager today and see what he says... For What It's Worth, they still have a used SUT that they were trying to sell to me for $190,000... It's still in the same spot in the showroom and that it was several months ago now they are asking $180,000....

Really strange that they had a wait-list going if that's the case.

Yea that doesn't make any sense to me. I'm hoping this is just another case of the concierge not knowing what he/she is talking about or not understanding the question. Otherwise the waitlist is pointless as Dark-Fx mentioned and we all have a lot less leverage with the dealerships than I thought.

It is also funny, because I was going to go by the dealership and talk to them today and they actually called me. He said they have no markup on vehicles that are ordered like the Hummer. But, he was encouraging me to come verify the SUV. It was almost like he knew if I didn't verify he wasn't going to get it. He also told me that he thought my 3x truck would probably not be there until late 2024. And I had just spoken with the concierge not 30 minutes prior and she said it would be spring 2024. So I don't really know what to believe

I think the concierge had it wrong. There was a poster on here recently who walked away because of a mark up only to have the dealership change its tune and honor MSRP. That similarly led me to believe that the dealership knew it would lose the truck entirely if the customer refused to verify.

FWIW I don’t think anyone has a great idea of timing and the dealership is probably guessing/assuming further delay based on how things have gone to date.

Yes, I have followed the other post and was happy to hear that their dealer had changed their mind on the mark up. That is also why I was thinking that I would have a little leverage. But, we are in the process of building a new home (I am self contracting) and my wife is very concerned about the the budget over-runs and we aren't even all the way done with the foundation. I do have a lot of building experience, but I am on the execution side in my day job and I don't really have to worry about the budget #'s.... Then when I say Oh and I want to buy a $100,000 SUV and that we can probably make $ on it.... She's harder to sway... I want the SUT (I haven't had a new vehicle since 2004), but I don't NEED it and if my 3X doesn't come until the end of 2024, that's fine with me... I rarely ever drive my personal truck (it's in a metal building where we are building the house and I cranked it last week and moved it outside to do some work in there and that's the 1st time it was cranked in over a month) as I drive a company truck during the day. I would hate to pass on the 1st Edition SUV, but I am thinking that is probably what we need to do unless she could get over the Size of it and we got rid of her SUV... I don't really think that is what will happen though...

I suspect this is part of the reason the confirmation process changed. The dealer had to submit my order when I was confirming my truck but now the end-buyer can do it on their own.

Do you mean you think they changed it to allow the buyer to have more control over the process / the ability to decline verification? I could see that being somewhat beneficial for buyers in avoiding mark-ups if the dealer could lose the sale at the click of a button as opposed to having to click the button on the buyer's behalf, which would require a discussion. However I think the reality is those dealers who are charging mark ups are counting on most of us not being quick to walk away after waiting 2+ years, regardless of who controls the process. It just seems like a fundamental flaw in the reservation process if dealers are not required to honor MSRP but the buyer is required to buy from a specific dealer.

If, as the concierge suggested, the truck goes to the dealer regardless of verification, then all of this is moot because we all have zero negotiating power if a dealer wants to charge a mark-up. I find it hard to believe that this is correct though.

Seems like at the very least the customer has a few months to hold things up. From the verification email:

Customers who have reserved a GMC HUMMER EV Pickup or SUV who are receiving this email have 3 more weeks to verify their reservation. Customers that do not verify their reservation within 3 weeks will be placed on Hold. If a customer verifies their reservation within 1 month of being placed on Hold, the reservation can be taken off Hold and the customer will retain their original place in the reservation line. If a customer does not verify their reservation during the first month of Hold, they will be placed on Hold for an additional 2 months. During those 2 months, the customer still has the ability to verify their reservation; however, if verified within months 2 or 3 of Hold, the customer will be moved to the back of the reservation line. After 3 months of not verifying the customer reservation, the reservation will be canceled and the customer must contact the dealer for a refund of the original reservation amount.

Depending on how much of a markup Honolulu GMC will try to pull off, I’ll just pass and take my Silverado EV RST instead, even though it’s got a more expensive MSRP
My dealer said that they do not have a mark up on pre-ordered vehicles. He did insinuate that if they had one that wasn't predetermined to a buyer, that they would probably try to get above MSRP. They have a slightly used on they they were initially trying to get $190,000 for and now they are at 180....but they were a little late to the party and I told them that months ago when they got it and I had talked to them and told them that I would like to see one in person. The online auction prices had already fallen to the $160,000 range at that point... And I told him that I was perfectly happy to wait for mine at MSRP...
Glad to hear you don’t have a mark up🥳

Hello, new here. I too got the email that states I have 3 weeks to get the order in and of-course my dealer is being greedy. I have been trying to get to the dealer owner but in my case the dealer is owned by a national group. Because of my location ( Hawaii) there are no other options except for going to the mainland…which I of course happy to do. Does anyone have a honest dealer on the west coast that honors MSRP, Oregon would be preferable? Thanks.
Unfortunately, I think you are out of luck. Sounds like people are no longer allowed to switch dealers. There have been several people on here that have recently tried. For a company that says they are trying to keep dealers from gouging customers. They sure are not being helpful at all with all these dealers with big mark ups on the Hummers and Z06
