Tesla used to be the EV innovator, not any more...

I found this interesting, it used to be Tesla that built cars using the latest tech, and gizmos, now it is Tesla that has to copy the other vehicle manufacturers...

First copying HummerEv's crab mode

Then Rivian's 4 motor drive system

What do you guys think? it seems Tesla is out of ideas, now has to try to crib everyone else's

Interesting he even used "like a crab." That seems like some backhanded passive aggressiveness to me. I'm sure they will find the buzzworthy new features we all have and will compound on them for the next big thing. It is interesting however they are not the innovators we have known for so long. We have said this before this is nothing but good news for us as a consumer. With so much competition every OEM will have to step up their game.

Elon is an innovator, not a competitor. I suspect he has been focusing on SpaceX more nowadays.

Yes, it is interesting, and great for all consumers. Keep pushing forward.

Interest in the Cybertruck is so high that it's guaranteed to be a success at this point.
Even better that they're keeping up with the competition but I'm still on team GM :D

Ya, Tesla could sell farts in a jar and sell millions of them. Cybertruck though has a lot of reservations from people who have never owned a truck, and have no idea how big it is, or how hard it is to live with a vehicle that big in a city.

I was interested in the Cyber truck right up until they showed the design... Sadly, I wasn't as up to date on the Hummer, because as soon as I saw it, I knew that was what I wanted for my next truck, but I wasn't aware of it until it was too late to get a 1st Edition... But it has been 17 years since my last (new or used) 4 wheel vehicle (the wife has gotten 2 new ones in that time) so what's a little longer... But, I get the feeling that a fully optioned EV3X may cost more than a 1st Edition.... Since they went all in and stated the price for the 1st Editions (I think it is honorable of GM) and they are sticking to it... Most of us know about the inflation and higher cost of everything right now... It's hard to hold a price for more than a month or so...

Never underestimate the importance of the HummerEV to GM's future, its not just the money they make from HummerEV. its what it means to the market that GM can bring a completely new electric vehicle to the market on time.

I think you are right though, the options for the EV3X might be more than buying a 1st edition. However a comment on a dealer conference call a couple weeks ago that everyone that signed up for 1st edition will get one, I take it as that means wait list holders too. GM is going to build more of these than they planned.

I hope that you are right about them building more and those of us who are waitlisted will be able to get an Edition 1 because I really like that white... But, I assume that I would be way down the list and would it still be a 2022? Or will they change the year model... Just curious if maybe those of us who receive ours much later may be able to get the power station added... Or, do you think that they are just going to build them all the same to add efficiency and not have to add different options and slow the manufacturing process.

Well, more copying, catching up on charging voltage:

But their existing charging network will have to be modified, or add some different chargers for the trucks.

Interesting though. Our Edition 1 is due Oct-Dec we were told which is "Fall". I'm curious if they will start to label things a 2023 by then, they usually do with other models quite early. Beyond that, if they will actually make any incremental changes or wait until that new model year release, or wait until after Edition 1s for example...

Not sure if the waitlist means they may make more, or just that you could get one if enough people don't convert their reservations to orders. It seems like they may have sent out the verify emails for ALL the edition 1s now since so many of us verified fully a while back, have orders, but they are still likely towards end of year deliveries....

That is a valid point about the model year... I have been wondering the same... Also, somewhere in a thread a long time ago, there was mention of the "power bar" (I think it was called) that would be similar to what Ford has where you could use the truck to power possibly your house. I think that it is available on the SUV and I believe that they said as on option on 2023 SUT's..... So.... Maybe those of us who aren't getting an Edition 1 or possibly even later Edition 1's could maybe get that option....
I do not know if I would use it much if ever (we have very little power outages where I live and usually just an hour or so) , but I would definitely get it.

Power Station... I searched and there was an article that says 2024 SUT's..... Hopefully sooner

We have the 7.2kW generator on our F150. It's cool for powering some large things away from house. It is around 30 amp max or so.

In reality to use it or, or in future other V2G functions for EVs you need to wire your home for it also. You have to split off the loads that you want to use it into their own subpanel and have an connection into it that won't feed back into other equipment at all.

We have solar+4 Tesla Powerwalls and whole home backup but that totals only 13.5 * 4 = ~53kW of battery backup. Everything had to be broken out into 1 main panel, 2 200 amp 240v panels, and 1 additional subpanel for all 110v stuff in the house. Combined with Solar its enough for 7+ ongoing days if Sunny at times. I'd love to tap into something like the Hummer 200kW pack though - would provide awesome assurance! Oh well though, maybe on the next EV we get ;-)

All the ED1's will be the same, GM will not change mid stream on this production run for changes.
