8662 Views 59 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  PFRobinson
I'm Ty White, Hummer EV Specialist at Mcelveen Buick GMC in Summerville, SC. I see a lot of customers are being hit with markups when going to buy their new EV. After speaking with my owners I am happy to announce that we will not be doing any markup on our EVs. If anyone would like to switch their reservation to my dealership, message me here or email [email protected].

-Thanks

I believe some other people on here have been told the opposite. Concierge seems clueless most of the time, maybe try again and see if you get a different answer
Clueless is putting it mildly.

Is this reservation switch arrangement over now that reservations are closed?
That would be my guess... I and a few others were fortunate via switching way before the closure... But maybe next year or so it will reopen; people will be ordering these puppies for the long haul--years...
McElveen is doing it again, this time on the Denali EV - I'm on it:

An email from McElveen related to the above:

The latest info from GM to dealers indicates that the 3X Trucks should start delivering Q1 of 2023 through the entire year of 2023 and 2X Trucks hitting the ground in Q2/Q3 2023. Edition 1 SUV’s should start delivering late Q1/Early Q2 of 2023 with the 3X & 2X SUV’s late Q2/Q3. With that said I am still anticipating early 3X truck customers finalizing their orders this quarter.

For those who might be interested in reserving the new Sierra EV Denali, Reservations will open at 5PM on Thursday 10/20/22. Here at McElveen we will be offering our reservation holders the same commitment/promise we have with the Hummers, You won’t Pay over MSRP and if you live out of state, we will fly you in to pick your truck up! So you can reserve with confidence! No Dealer has more hands on experience with the GM Ultium Platform that is the foundation of both the Hummer EV & Sierra EV! Our EV Sales Specialists and EV Service Specialists, along with myself will ensure your EV purchase experience exceeds your expectations!

any decent dealers in TX?
If you don’t already have a reservation you are out of luck. I believe since they quit taking reservations it may not be possible to switch from your original dealer now either as it involved placing a new reservation.

Sorry, I really should have been more clear. There's not really a dedicated Sierra EV place, so I just figured this would be the next best place to find a decent dealer before reservations go up.

You may want to purchase from McElveen and simply have any GM, not necessarily a GMC dealer service you in TX...

Cool. Just call around to a few dealers in your area and let them know you’re going to be reserving a Sierra and you’re going to reserve it with a dealer that commits to MSRP. I know many dealers are doing the Hummers at MSRP for reservation holders, don’t let the few sleezebags scare you. I admire the constant solicitation from McElveen on here that’s what sales people do, but you’ll always get better service when you buy and service locally. Also saves some extra out of state paperwork.
OP (Ty). If there is a way that you can facilitate a switch to you, let me know. I called concierge and the person said it can't be done since reservations are closed. That seems odd to me, but I'm not sure what I can do to make it happen (if anything).

This seems like a big flaw in the reservation process while reservations remain closed. If there is no opportunity to switch dealerships anymore, what is to prevent a shady dealership from charging mark-ups? In just the last couple of weeks we've seen a couple of dealerships charging mark-ups (albeit relatively small compared to early on) after the trucks were already ordered. Now the dealerships don't even have to guarantee MSRP prior to the order since they have all the leverage and it becomes take-it-or-leave-it. Sure they risk losing an order but if the mark-up is similar to recent mark-ups (~$10K), how likely are people to actually walk away after two years of waiting? It will be unfortunate if dealerships take advantage of this and people start finding themselves forced to pay a mark-up or walk away entirely.

Luckily my 2X and 3X SUV reservations are at different dealerships so I'll have two shots at MSRP and will have some leverage in the discussions, but I still wish I had switched to Mcelveen months ago for peace of mind.

Yah, I'll see how I feel when I get to that point. The first thing I will need the dealer to do when I get there to discuss order is hammering out the price (I've made the mistake of not doing that in the past). The fact that my dealer won't give my a promise in writing about msrp makes me thing they'll slap something on. If it's too much, I'll be cancelling my order.

I tweeted the GMC folks. We'll see if they respond with anything.
Hi! Are you still open to cooperation? I’m new to the electric vehicles market and am surprised by the markups some dealerships offer. Buying a new electric vehicle turned out to be more difficult than I expected it to be. Initially, I wanted a Tesla, but Hummer looks more like something I need from a vehicle.
Reservations have ended for Hummer for now, and based on other user posts you also cannot transfer a reservation to another dealer now, so if you’ve got one reserved you are stuck with the original dealer you chose
What is the process for changing dealers?
Until the open reservations back up the process for changing is gone. You would normally just make a new reservation then call concierge and have them give the new reservation your old number in line and cancel the old. A consequence of the way they setup reservations to basically being a "finder's" service for dealerships. So the dealership gets the $100, not GM.
Just walked away form my Edition 1 Hummer SUV. The dealer wanted a $50,000 ADM. Not in this lifetime. I'll just go back to Mercedes or BMW for my next SUV.
