So on the Hummer the swing gate opens to the right. Easy access from the driver side, but it blocks easy access if you're loading along a street.



For comparison the FJ Cruiser is opposite. Which do think you would prefer?

Hard to say on a preference... My wife had a Lexus GX that was hinged like the Hummer and it had it's plusses and Minuses.... She now has a Mercedes GLS with a lift gate, and I think that I prefer that better. But with the spare tire on the carrier, that is probably prohibitive.

I haven’t had a swing gate previously and will need to get used to it in either direction, but would think opening in the direction of the FJ Cruiser (toward the road) might be an issue given the width of the Hummer and size of the tire.
