No Cybertruck in 2022

On the earnings call today Elon Musk said Tesla will not produce the Cybertruck in 2022, and as a matter of fact is not going to produce any new vehicles in 2022, only S3XY as fr as they eye can see.

Later in the call he mentioned Cybertruck has production cost problems that need to be worked through, "no matter how good it is nobody will buy it if it costs too much" which I see as code for they cannot build it yet for a reasonable cost.

MotorTrend is saying it might not be until 2024 until any new models are introduced.

My post from two months ago:
Elon is an innovator, not a competitor. I suspect he has been focusing on SpaceX more nowadays.

My post from two months ago:
Space X is having financial problems, they have been raising $$ about every 4 months, I think their texas operation is draining them dry. 3 years and crashed 6 rockets and still no orbital flight of the Super Heavy that had been guided for last October.

They can't do an orbital launch until the tower is ready and have FAA approval, that won't happen until late Feb.

Umm, I think its more then the tower and FAA holding them up, the Raptor engines have been a disaster, and they are clearly changing plans quickly. Booster 1, got scrapped before even leaving the high bay, Booster 2 was stillborn, Booster 3 made it to the pad, and then scrapped, now they are building more boosters... Reusability? How many of the starship prototypes flew twice, oh ya NONE... Only 1 kinda survived its test flight, and all of them had engine malfunctions to varying degrees. Interesting following ULA, their first Vulcan rocket prototype is planned to go to space and do a real mission, and the second going to the moon. They have engine problems too with the Blue Origin engine which has been late through development.
Tesla stans sit on a throne of irony as they squawked for months about how the Hummer EV was nothing but vaporware.

Oh, how the turns have tabled.

Exactly... I still remember one member here telling me Cybertruck will be in production last July... Haha! He forgot Elon's words, Prototypes are easy, Production is hard.. I see that member over on Rivian boards now, spouting the same nonsense.

The most interesting part to me about the call was when Elon said they will be limited to 250k trucks. If so, that’s a lot less than GM should have by then.

Ya, I heard that too, both Ford and GM are tooling for over 500K each by 2025, Tesla may have missed their chance at truck market dominance. To be honest, Cybertruck as designed may never make production, as that TIG welded stainless body is always going to be slow to build, heavy, and expensive, and I wonder how they will keep the body from discoloring and distorting when welded, the more heat you put in by trying to weld fast, the more discoloration and distortion, look at the wrinkle finish of his rockets in Texas if you wonder, and those are welded much slower then a high production pickup would be.

No new models in 2022, and not even working on the $25K car were shocking to investors, and the stock is paying the price today.
Yea, Elon knew they had good financial numbers but nothing new to say regarding product so he tried to emphasize the same old robotaxi/fsd and even the robot so investors don’t look at “real” stuff! I know CEOs love to try distract in that way (even Mary does that sometimes), but I would love to hear some refreshing honesty occasionally!

I feel like the cybertruck is probably going to hit market saturation pretty quickly with how polarizing the looks are. I also have to imagine that keeping the production numbers down could be an attempt to maintain the residual value proposition.
I’ve been saying it since it’s initial public reveal, the cybertruck isn’t coming for a very long time, if ever.
Where’s the Tesla roadster? Exactly…

Elon knows how to raise money and get people excited, he’s a genius and the world is a better place because of him and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him but personally I’m not a fan of Teslas and their looks and build quality.

I am about the same as you on the views about the cyber truck and Elon. However, I do like the styling of of the Model S.... He has really created the electric car era, and made them mainstream. I have made some $ on their stock. But, I think that the Big Auto makers are about to catch up and blow right past him

Ya, and there is a lot to like about Tesla cars. I am usually negative on Tesla, and thought I would hate the Model Y after a while, but I have to admit, it has some endearing features, and man, the throttle is the funnest I have ever touched, even more fun than my crazy 750 hp BB Chevelle, that I tuned up and adjusted the valves yesterday. Was going to take it for a spin, but then it started raining, this car is no fun in the rain, might as well be black ice.
