I was just reading in the Detroit Free Press which is usually an accurate source for auto industry inside news, and I read that dealers have said there are 10K pre orders for the Edition 1, which if true is news. There is also a comment in the article that GM is evaluating building more Edition 1's.

Interesting...this is much more than I expected! The question is...how many will be built in the first year?

Ya, 10K is more than I expected originally, but as I see the amount of hits around the internet, its no surprise. The Edition 1 is no longer a small pet program, thats over a $1B franchise already. I think GM planned for 10K in the first year, but now they are looking for ways to up that production. The supply chain will be their limiting factor, some parts might be hard to ramp up faster than planned (batteries, suspension and motors). GM is also using an all new factory design for Hummer EV with some pretty cool technology. Henry Fords moving final assembly line is out. GM is using robotic carts to carry the vehicles when they leave marriage which carry the vehicles to "stop stations" for final assembly. This is a first in high production auto assembly in the USA for sure, maybe the world. GM thinks this will make the factory more efficient, and also lower stress (physical and mental) for the assemblers hopefully leading to increased quality. I will bet the Spring Hill factory will be set up the same way for LYRIQ, as it seems this is GM's new direction, we might also see this at Oshawa, as GM announced they are replacing the "final assembly" portion of that plant during the current refit. Seems very interesting, and I can see the benefit for a "flex" line that builds multiple different vehicles.

Seems like GM set this number to protect themselves in case the Hummer wasn't well received. But now that there's a clear demand there ready to crank things up.

TFL has an article about that isn't behind a paywall for anyone having trouble with the above link.

Earlier this week GMC said they are "evaluating if they can build more" Edition 1 Hummer EV's

Andre did a poor job of writing that article, if the DFP article is his source, he mixed up many of the details.
