Hello all, I’ve done PPF my RS7 and i4M50 but am wondering if is necessary since these trucks are so high. I had a lifted Jeep for decades and never had any rock chip issues. I have a SUV currently due for summer delivery and since it is matte, doing PPF on the front would mean doing the entire truck. I believe the front 2/3 of the SUV is the same as the pickup. For those that have received theirs, please let me know what you think.

I've done the entire frontend, hood, front fenders, mirrors, A pillars and back bumper. As for it being high enough to avoid rock chips, when I got it done with <200 miles, the installers showed me 1 rock chip on the under the charge indicator light and 1 on the mirror before he started. I also did the windshield with protection film because its so vertical and would probably take the full impact of a flying rock than skipping on it if the windshield was more angled.

I had PPF installed the day after delivery. I also did the “Tear Off” on the wind Shield. It was raining when I drove to the installer. I noticed significant dirt and on the aft front fenders. I suspect it was blow off from the front tires. The installer recommended that I cover that area, which I did. Rock chips, on a white vehicle are highly noticeable, most of the time the primer or bare metal is visible.

I am proud to have rock chips. I refuse to cover my car in plastic, even though PPF has come a long way over the years. If you dont PPF you will get rock chips. My windshield has plenty of chips as well. If you dont like rock chips get PPF.

that makes zero sense. you rather have rock chips all over your new car then protect it? so you like rock chips then?

For what it is worth, I was quoted around $7k for either the Hummer SUT or Rivian R1T for Xpel Stealth of the whole vehicle. I've heard ballparks from $7-9k.
Thanks! That's about what I expected but I didn't recall seeing any actual estimates for the Hummer. At that cost it's not obvious to me that it's worth it but I'll likely get an estimate when the time comes.

The front of the hood and the rear quarters (where they flare) take a beating. PPF will save you from stone chips. My truck is glossy white so I plan to PPF the hood and quarters (minimal amount) but haven't gotten to it yet. Probably tint the windows when I do it. Also, the windshield attracts rocks, so I wonder if the ExoShield will even work on it (it's almost vertical).

Thank you for all of the feedback. Looks like I'll be wrapping the entire SUV with XPEL Stealth (Edition1 matte) when I get it. Since I'm in South Florida, I always have my entire vehicles, including windshield tinted with max UV film for heat. Does anyone know if the infinity roof panels accept film? I'll look into the exterior windshield protection as well. Fingers crossed that the Summer 2023 projection doesn't get pushed back.
