Hello from Michigan! My name is Al Oppenheiser, and I am the Chief Engineer for the new HummerEV. Previously I was the Chief Engineer for the 5th Generation and 6th Generation Camaro, and was very involved with the Camaro forums. It was a great way to interact with enthusiasts and customers. I wanted to join here for the same reasons, hoping to connect with Hummer enthusiasts and eventually our customers. I feel strongly that we can really create a Hummer community with you, learn from you, help you, and eventually attend events with you. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, and I look forward to sharing HummerEV news as it gets closer to production. (Sorry, can't answer every question just yet -- it's still a little early for us to share everything -- competitive reasons.

Welcome sir... Looking forward to getting my hands on the Edition 1 and testing its “chops” on the rocks out east. As an owner of an H1 and (2) H2’s definitely excited about the next step.

Al, will there be a way to track our Hummer EV as it makes its way through the build process?

Hi Al, how about you work on an 80 mph EV tournament bass boat next?

Great to have you @Aloppen, this will be a great development for the forum!

It's going to be hard to hold back on some of the more direct, pressing questions lol, but I'm sure we'll all be looking forward to them being revealed one by one as we go! I will also say this, the day I found out you were going to be the Chief Engineer on the new Hummer was the day I knew it was going to be a winner. Your work with the Camaro brought thousands of new, young enthusiasts into the GM fold!

So glad to have you here on our forum, I can't wait to see how this ride goes.

Mister O... get t' buildin' 'em, sir! And pay no attention to the whiners on F'book who are already squawking about the price point! There are a sh!t-ton (a non-Engineering measurement term) of us out here who will pay the freight on this Fantasy-beast!

Thanks for joining, i appreciate any info you can give those of us interested in the new Hummer EV, Was just curious how the first prototype build was going? I know some people are claiming that it's a big scam because there wasn't a complete prototype done quite yet and was somehow faked because many of the images at the unveiling were CGI. Also, I saw that GM was moving up some of their EV projects, and some implied that included the Hummer as well which could move it up earlier than the end of 2021, or was I misreading that?

Unfortunately Al is not going to give us any non public information. As for people thinking the Hummer EV reveal was a scam, there is one group of people who thought that, and they are Tech people, who follow Tesla for the most part. They think because Cybertruck ran and drove it was more production ready than the Hummer EV. These people however do not realize how the real car industry outside of silicon valley works, Show Cars at their time of reveal often do not have full capabilities, and the Hummer EV show car was intended to drive out on a stage in a May 2020 reveal and go on a turntable and let media get its first look at it. Thats it.. GM also built a show cutaway so people could see the chassis, structure, and Ultium system. This is standard Detroit rollout fare. Then COVID happened which changed all the plans to the online reveal which actually sucked. As much as the online reveal sucked it did drive tremendous traffic to GMC's website and did bring a massive amount of press coverage, so I guess the product is what mattered, and the word got out that there is a new sheriff in town. haha!

I do not think you will see first Hummer EV sales moved up from fall 2021, GM will not release the Hummer EV for series production until it goes thorough the full development testing phase, this requires Winter and Summer certifications. If I was a betting man, I do not think you will see production of salable models until November 2021, even though production for GM's captured long term test fleet may start earlier than that (summer). The part of the Hummer EV schedule that may be moved up is the lower equipped models as they ramp production. All of this hinges on battery supply from Lordstown OH, and demand from customers.

The amount of Tesla fans that think the production cybertruck is going to be the same as the prototype is crazy. It's going to look much different due to regulations.

I've thought this exact same thing myself. Common sense tells you that no, the truck will be substantially revised by the time it drops. Man, are they in for a surprise 🤣

Yeah, too many silicon valley people that think the car industry works the same as the the tech industry.
