Hummer EV Fall 2021 Reservation

Not sure if this is out of line or not possible but looking to purchase a reservation for first release Hummer EV if someone had a change of heart, etc. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hi @DadofDuke, welcome to the HummerChat forums! I noticed you joined 2 weeks back and are now posting for the first time, glad to have you here.

I'm not super well-versed on the reservation process (I'm holding off for an SUV version down the line as opposed to a truck variant), but I can say that it's not out of line to ask the question. Where there may be an issue is with transferring the reservations from a member to yourself...I'm sure someone would take the $100 for it, but they also had to select a dealership to initiate the process, so that dealership may not be changeable. We'd have to wait for a reservation holder to see this thread and respond for confirmation.

Assuming it is doable, if you can't find an interested party here, you should definitely check out our sister Facebook page, GMC HUMMER EV Group. Typically we send members from there to here, but since there are about 4 times as many people there as there are here, you may have better luck finding a seller.

Also, member Rip2tide2 had a similar inquiry as you a couple months back...and if you were willing to wait, there are still plenty of EV3X reservation slots open. For reference, the EV3X slots just below the Edition One, has almost all of the cool offroad hardware and most of the software (which will likely become available as an OTA update down the line anyways), and will come a year later, in the Fall of 2022. If you can't grab an Edition One reservation, that's not a bad fall back plan by any means. In fact, the only real negative is an extra year of waiting, and that may be pushed up anyways. You also have the option to get on the Edition One waiting list with an EV3X reservation.

Reservations are non-transferable unless you get really creative in terms of purchase and registration agreements. It’s not trivial and not worth the brain damage. Easier to just buy the truck from one of the handful of people who will get them early with the intent of selling them. Yes, expensive, but less brain damage if getting one ASAP is your top concern. IMO that’s never worth it just to say “first!” as you’ll pay a premium to a private party and then already be the second owner of record. You can buy the same truck if you put in a reservation now, you may just have to wait a bit longer to get it and it probably won’t have the Edition 1 badge on it.

In reality, your best bet is to put in a reservation for the EV3X and check that you want to be on the waiting list for an Edition 1. GM is evaluating the demand for the Edition 1s, or what amounts to an all but fully loaded EV3X configuration, and they may build more than the initial intended number. In short, what they’re doing will be allocating all the full-spec’d orders to the front of the line. $112K + tax and extras is a lot for most buyers. I’d expect a lot of reservations to evaporate as we get closer and the serious buyers will move up in rank. We all don’t know how this is going to work, but an EV3X is fully configurable with all the same functional options as the Edition 1. So you can still have the larger battery that gives you 1000+ HP and WTF mode as well as the transparent roof panels and everything else. We don’t have solid answers yet on upgrade pricing or other cosmetic trim options like the lunar white exterior and some interior trim features that may be Edition 1 only or offered as part of the lunar landscape interior/exterior combo package that may or may not be an option on lower trims.

Production timeline is still a moving target. Many Edition 1 recipients may still end up taking delivery in 2022. No way to know where a reservation falls in terms of production timeline. The time/date of placing the reservation is an indicator, but production order is also determined by location and configured options.

All the dealerships that have paid the $125K premium to be official Hummer showrooms will get an Edition 1 truck for display/ demo purposes. They will be allowed to sell that truck at a later date. Perhaps there’s a dealership out there that has not promised that truck to anyone just yet.

Personally I think there will be very few deliveries in 2021, most Edition 1's will be delivered in 2022. If there are more than 1000 Hummer EV deliveries in Q4 2021, I will be shocked. No pun intended. I think they will start production in late September, but the first units will be for the captured fleet, and media drives. Real sellable units will start production in November, and deliveries in December. IMO I estimate 100-500 will actually get into customers hands in 2021. I am expecting mine in April 2022.

Battery supply will be very limited prior to the Lordstown factory coming online.

Totally agree. I should amend my post so that instead of saying many, it should say most Edition 1 recipients will get theirs in 2022. Even minor hiccups in factory construction, final design approvals, battery or component production, etc.. could very well push all deliveries to start in 2022.

I sure wish @Aloppen would chime in with a testing update... I think the factory reconditioning at Factory Zero is going well, and will not be the bottleneck. Body and paint shop are coming along nicely. I hear the body shop is tooling up, and the paint shop is installing systems, so 2 or 3 months both should be ready for early trials At the Lordstown Battery cell plant , it is almost 50% dried in, and pouring concrete floors, tooling should start going in soon. I think GM is planning to get the first batteries for the test models from other LG sites, but I could see a path to initial production from Lordstown late this year. There seems to be a lot of pressure to connect the permanent power substation which means they are wanting power to test equipment on site soon. Utilities on these projects are often a bottleneck, but it seems GM planned early and got in front of the curve.

I really appreciate the input from all. Thank you.
It is a timing thing for me and I would like to have as quickly as possible. Understood on having to coordinate with the selected dealer and I am willing to do so. I did reserve the EV3 and joined wait list for Edition 1. With that said, I am still open to purchasing a reservation from somone. If someone has a change a heart and wants to make a few bucks, please let me know. Thank you.

Good luck to you, @DadofDuke. I'd definitely recommend joining the GMC HUMMER EV Group Facebook page and posting your situation there...your chances of finding an interested party are much higher that way. And after you grab a reservation, or even if you stick with the EV3X reservation, check back here often for all the latest info on the truck. Hope all works out!

Timing issues are always difficult with new vehicles. Had a timing issue with a Tesla Model 3 purchase myself and ended up buying another car altogether. I do think you can probably acquire one of the first few off the line for public sale, for a price of course. But if it's a timing thing, that still may not help... No guarantee that anyone will get one of these trucks this fall or even this year. I wish you all the luck and hope you find one. I also agree with StillHummer about the Facebook group -- more people there and more likely to find someone willing to part with a reservation.

Personally, I'm still deciding between the Hummer EV and Tesla CyberTruck. Overall I like the Hummer a lot better, but will weigh it against the final form of the CyberTruck when the time comes. The one thing about the Hummer that is giving me pause here is the 5ft bed. It may work with the tailgate down, but I need to be able to haul either of my two ATVs in the truck without a trailer. I'm not too worried about it, but it is a concern.

That will be just slightly out of my price range... $2.5M to $5M would be my guess on the price... Maybe more... Rick Hendrick is going to want the #001 HummerEV

I like the Hummer too, but I wish that they offered it with a longer bed. I have a 2005 Silverado HD with the 6'-6" bed and I wish the Hummer had a longer bed. But I don't think that I will be working construction out of the Hummer with its cost, and I could store some tools in the frunk instead of adding a tool box, so maybe it will be OK

The Hummer EV is designed to be an off road SUT (sport utility truck), it is not designed to be a hardcore work truck. If you look at the basic design, the cab is shorter in length than the current crew cab pickups, and the shorter bed. They had a target wheelbase, and tried to package as much as they could in that wheelbase. I think the SUV version set the wheelbase length (just a guess). At this price range people are typically not buying the Hummer EV to be an HD work truck, although I am an excavation contractor, and will drive the Hummer EV to work when it's prudent (I cannot wait to drive it across some muddy worksite). I currently drive my Tesla Y to work at least 3 days or so a week, and my HD Sierra on the days I need it's capability, but if I have one complaint about the new HD pickups is they are so long (even the short bed version is at least a foot longer than my old 2011 was), I have a terrible time parking it if I have meetings down town, or need to get into smaller areas.
