Silverado EV and Hummer EV production timeline and targets were published today by a forecasting company.

"GM declined to provide production timing at the Detroit plant, known as Factory Zero, but forecasting company AutoForecast Solutions expects output to start in late 2022. The company expects GM to build 38,000 electric Silverados annually starting in 2023.

GM also confirmed that it plans to make the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV, which debuted last week, at the Detroit plant. By 2024, AutoForecast Solutions expects GM to build 23,000 Hummer SUVs per year."

Great Info, and that sounds just about right on the timing, and volume. GM is launching the refreshed Silverado/ Sierra this summer, and will want a year to run with those before the EV model debuts.

Here is the nose... From the Barclays investor conference... Clearly much more streamlined and aerodynamic than the Hummer EV.

The question for me is if the ICE Silverados will look similar to this or they'll look different because Ford is making it look clear that the F-150 EV will look very similar to the ICE models.

The refresh Ice will look like a family member of this, but obviously much more open grill space, and less aerodynamic focus. GM is trying to make the Silverado EV not just a good pickup, but a good EV, so aerodynamics are super important, you can see from the Bolt EUV, this Silverado EV teaser photo, and the Traverse sized vehicle behind it that this is the new face of Chevy going forward.

Yeah I like that Chevy and GM don't seem to be afraid to make those kinds of design changes in order to make a better EV.

Carscoops has a bang-on rendering of the Silverado EV that's as close to perfect as any render I've ever seen. Check it out if you're interested!

I posted that picture but it got deleted, is that a copyright issue?
It shouldn't be, Tom. When did you post it? And did it initially go through but was removed at a later time? I know I didn't remove it and it wasn't in my moderator queue, so if you'd like I can contact Administrator and ask. In the meantime, you can try posting it again to see what happens.

That one is pretty solid, but the Carscoops one is even better. Looked production ready. If only I could find it!

I am imagining that in the SS trim Lowered, with the Hummer 830 HP motors, 0-60 in about 3 seconds, and 450 miles of Range, for about $75K... so much better looking, and more practical than both Rivian, and Cybertruck. I think this will have a nice Frunk too...
If Chevy was to every have a high performance pickup in their lineup that would be the way to go.

Just circling back around to this post as this reminded me of a few comments from Al Oppenheiser in that latest video from GMC: aerodynamics make a big difference in the range and weight seems to not make a huge difference (referring to his comments on cargo making a relatively minor change in range). The Chevy should be a big difference in aero from the Hummer based upon what we have seen so far. Hopefully that will mean that Chevy could lower the battery size a bit (thus lowering cost and weight). I would also assume that the tires and wheels will be smaller thus improving weight and probably aero as well (smaller wheel wells needed as they probably wouldn’t plan on 37” tires like the Hummer). I have seen different ranges for the Chevy mentioned- 400 miles seems to be the latest- but I think that should easily be doable given these tweaks. Taking off the four wheel steering, removable roofs, heavy duty skid plates, snd the aforementioned smaller tires and wheels, plus other stuff I am probably forgetting would hopefully lose at least 1000 pounds from the Hummer weight - 9000 pounds! Engineering Explained has a good video of how wheel sizes affect EV ranges a lot as well - so maybe that’s a good miles of range themselves given how large and off-road oriented the standard tires are for the Hummer.

I think GM will build a few different Silverado and Sierra versions, some will maximize range and price for commercial customers, some will be more sporty, powerful and luxury. All of them will have better aerodynamics and mass than the Hummer which is actually not a brick, but pretty close.

This is the Silverado EV

Yea, Ive seen that one. I like the looks of the red one better personally! The red one they had in their CES presentation had that the light bar lit up. I wonder when they will show in its full glory instead of hidden in the shadows?
