Bout time!
I wonder if they will let President Biden take it for a spin around the track? WTF mode pulls harder then his corvettes...Bout time!
Im sure Factory Zero was ready for opening weeks ago and they were just finalizing Biden's visit for more marketing and hype around GM. I cant think of any reason for GM to let Rivian slip ahead other than for big marketing.I wonder if they will let President Biden take it for a spin around the track? Another thought I had if GM had any marketing chops to take advantage of the massive marketing boost from the presidential visit, they should have the BrightDrop vans there on site as several have been built already, and maybe an EV Corvette prototype since Biden already blew their secret on that before. GM should take advantage of the opportunity with some kind of "one more thing"... Maybe a new factory announcement?
Ya, fair point. Rivian though is an American company, and most major stakeholders are here in the USA, so Biden should be helping them all succeed. I mean Rivian is really the American Dream, smart guys build a company from the ground up and become billionaires. Only in America my friend...Im sure Factory Zero was ready for opening weeks ago and they were just finalizing Biden's visit for more marketing and hype around GM. Im sure Mary and Biden will have some discussion around Rivian IPO proves General Motors is undervalued, says GM CEO Mary Barra as well a little presidential help
I partially agree with you, but GM launching into Ultium, is a big deal for the company, and aligns with the sitting presidents agenda, so its great for visibility for GM, Ultium, and Biden can swing through town and say hi to union members who are critical for his future. I do not think there is anything wrong with bringing national media attention to EV launches, Ford got a big pop on the F150 Launch, and hopefully GM gets the same pop. There are many Americans that think GM's only Ev is a Bolt that is on fire... It's time to change that narrative in the national media. GM has a chance to get massive free publicity and I hope they nail it.Unpopular opinion (and maybe not even consequential), but I hate when car companies invite sitting presidents to reveals, production initiations, etc...I don't care whether it's Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Barack or George, it politicizes a car launch in a way that harms auto enthusiasm. I personally wouldn't even be against it, but so many people in the car world (that is typically non-political in its best form) start arguing and bickering whenever a stunt like this is pulled. Injects to much politicking into cars. Same thing happened with Donald Trump and Lordstown. We are apparently incapable of being civil at the slightest hint of politics in this country, so I'd prefer it just stay out entirely.
If people could be respectful and not combative every single time a politician does something related to cars, I'd be fine with this. But they can't. So I'm not.
