From Motor1:
Apparently, the GMC Hummer EV wasn't initially supposed to be...the Hummer EV.
GMC seemed to go into the project expecting to make an all-electric GMC Sierra (presumably), but once they saw how much performance and off-road domination they could engineer into the platform, they decided this was finally the right time to resurrect the Hummer nameplate.
This would make sense, as it's been rumored that GMC and General Motors TWICE strongly considered resurrecting the Hummer or a Hummer-esque vehicle under GMC in 2014 and 2018, but with an internal combustion engine. This time, with the Ultium platform and 1,000 horsepower, the stars finally aligned!
