Can’t wait to see more of these reviews. Hopefully we get some more new info rather than them just regurgitating the same info like the latest TFL video.

TFL often does these videos when they're embargoed from sharing driving impressions until a later date. Agreed they are not especially helpful!

Wonder if those embargos still apply if they are able to drive someone else's vehicle...

Don't think so, but then they might not get invited to the next GM event.

I told the guy I met at the stadium that they need to take one of the Hummers up the back road to Crown King. They already had a couple of trucks with a lot of desert pin striping. That truck the TFL guy was in may have been the one I got to sit in and check out up close.

TheStraightPipes posted their review of the Hummer EV.

"2022 GMC Hummer EV review by The Straight Pipes. The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is putting down 1000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque from a 3 electric motors and a 200 kWh battery. At $110,395 USD, would you take it over the Tesla Cybertruck that doesn't exist, Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado EV, Rivian R1T?"

I would take every single YouTube auto review with a grain of salt. Having met a couple very popular YouTubers including Roman and Nathan of TFL when I lived in Boulder area, they have to be absolutely careful to not say negative things about press car vehicles and even the ones they buy or they will get band from future press vehicles. Manufacturer sales reps pin them down with briefings before posting reviews on what they can and can’t say. The best reviewers are those that buy them and so long term reviews without any promo from dealers and manufacturers

I offered to let a few do some testing on my Hummer while I still had it, and none of them jumped at the chance. This was way before anyone in the press had a chance to review it. That's how I figured out it's all bullshit. I didn't reach out to TFL because of their whining about the R1T press event.

Most people just follow what they want to hear from car reviewers. When I met Roman 12yrs ago training for a triathlon in Boulder , “yes he also did them as well but wasn’t very good”, he knew nothing about cars. I was driving my 2008 Land Cruiser and we walks up to me, first time we meet and he asks me, “is that the new Highlander”. I chuckled and said “yeah, and it’s on 34’s”. I eventually got to see and talk to them on off-road meets in Moab and Colorado”black bear pass,etc.”. He’s a good guy but his son knows way more about cars then he does. Don’t even get me started on Andre.lol!

This is a BS comment, Most OEM's do not mind constructive criticism that is deserved, and embrace it. OEM's though will not invite reviewers that bash their vehicles repeatedly, which is much different. Some people come to a drive event and instead of reviewing, they already have a bias. Ryan Lenvinson of the Killowatts did this on both the Lyriq and Blazer events, bashing on both of them in Tic Tok videos, if I was running GM's media relations I would take him off the list, he does not add anything constructive, and went straight for the cars weakness without discussing strengths.

The only reviewer I pay serious attention to is John Voelcker. He is an old-school automotive journalist/engineer who's been covering the high efficiency automotive world since before it was cool. Founding editor for Green Car Reports. Doesn't do video. Writes long-form prose reviews. Now mostly writes for Charged EVs, catering more to the EV engineering community than to EV-acolytes.

He concluded his recent Blazer EV review with a detailed history of GM's progression to today's EV situation, including links to some interesting older GM-related articles I'd not read before. Take a gander.

One other article for anyone interested in the inside story of GM's progression to where we are now with Hummers, Lyriq's, and a whole line up of other EVs is this 2016 Wired article on the Bolt's development history

I may not always agree with John's opinion, but he is one I always set aside time to carefully read and follow all his backup links. His opinions are always informed and definitely not-bought.

Autotrader (US) put together this quick take on the Hummer.
The GMC Hummer EV has had over 90,000 people say they want one. This waitlist has created quite a production backlog. If you want one, the wait could be more than two years until you get your own. That's wild!

One thing I think they keep forgetting... this truck was designed for Off-Roading so the type of interior they are expecting for the price point (thinking Lux) isn't going to be there... GM purposefully chose the materials to make it easier to clean, and not wear out as easily as some of the more expensive leathers...

Agree with what you are saying in Concept, but GM did sneak in some extra cheap components like the turn signal stalk that is the same one used on their cheaper cars, and the plastic quality on the lower dash is entry level car grade. GM needs to take a good look at the plastics Hyundai uses and learn.. Hyundai uses cheap plastic, but the texture and fits are nicer to the look and touch.
