EV Charging Pet Peeves

What are some of the things that bug you the most when you have to charge your Hummer or other EV? For me the biggest one is when there's a line at a charging station and someone has finished charging and takes their sweet time to move their car because they're not paying attention.

Similar issues for me, I have been on road trips where there are lines at the chargers, but many people will charge to a higher SoC than they really need. Too many people think that 80% is some magic number that have to reach at each charging stop, others charge even higher, and the rate at high SoC is slow.

I was on a trip in my Mach E last July and two stops in a row I pulled into the last available charger. At both stops I left with the same three cars still charging, and others waiting to charge.

I wish Ev stations weren’t at the front of parking lots but at the back. Too many Ev drivers take the spots even if they don’t need to charge because they’re closer. If I have to charge my car, I would have no problem having to walk.

At Disney, if you’re not one of the first in the parking lot, the Ev spots are all taken by Teslas. I nearly ran out of battery because I couldn’t get an Ev spot.

My company provides free EV charging spots at our office but there aren’t nearly enough and the spots are full before 8AM. That is not a big deal since most days I can find an open spot midafternoon if I really need one, but it’s a big pet peeve of mine when every day the same cars (a few of them hybrids) are plugged in all day long without moving. It’s just lazy and disrespectful. I’d almost rather have to pay to charge so that people are more likely to move their cars when they’re done charging.
I only charge publicly on road trips. My pet peeve is when I pull up in the Hummer and the only other vehicle charging is an EV plugged into the station’s only 350 charger. I will look up the vehicle’s specs and it won’t even charge faster than 150. Some people plug into it only because 350 is higher than 150 or 100, not realizing their car won’t charge over a certain speed.

Mine is Electrify America told me they were going to fix the 25-50% of rated speed a month ago and there was no progress in Ohio and Michigan. I'm driving my Diesel Escalade on Road trips untilI see progress or the Tesla Magic dock appears outside New York and California.

Yeah if a PHEV is taking that much time that's ridiculous. I'm surprised people with a PHEV would bother. I'd just wait to charge at home.

Agree. I understand wanting to keep the battery charged to the extent possible but either (i) move your car when it's done charging or (ii) plug it in in the afternoon when others are done charging. The problem seems to be lack of etiquette with EV charging, with people not bothering or being too lazy to move their cars because they don't feel that others are doing the same.
This is what worries me about going to an EV... As if/and when I get the Hummer, my wife may decide that she doesn't need the large SUV and opt for a smaller sporty-er car... But we would need a vehicle that we could take everything that we need for a week at the beach... I feel fairly confident that for our normal beach trips to Myrtle Beach (here in SC) that we would have the range to get there or to visit her step dad in the mountains of NC, but we would need to public charge while there to get around and then to get back home. It seems that the charging network is no where near ready for the onslaught of EV's that are coming and you don't usually have to wait very long for a gas pump.... But if you needed to charge on a road trip and you pull up and all the chargers are full or many do not work... That may RUIN the EV experience...
